Our Program

Program Delivery

Designed to build capacity, confidence, and connections, the ABL program is delivered predominantly online - a mix of facilitated learning modules, mentoring and group projects.

Modules are delivered through a unique collaboration of public and private sector industry experts, with additional special guests from some of Australia’s leading agricultural representative groups, including:

Accelerated Learning Opportunities

Twice a year, participants gather to accelerate their peer learning opportunities:

  • At the biennial ABL Forum, new, current, and former participants (alumni) come together for 2.5 days of intensive capacity building and networking. Industry leaders, sponsors, and ABL participants are invited to a formal evening to celebrate the previous intake’s graduation and presentation of group projects.

  • An intensive, three-day supply chain tour increases participants’ understanding of the conditions, considerations and challenges of beef from paddock to plate.

ABL cohorts are a mix of producer, agribusiness and service provider participants striving to step up and have an impact and influence in their businesses, industry, and community.

The development of close-knit alumni is vital to the long-term success of the program and leadership opportunities and outcomes in agriculture.

    Understand yourself and your preferred behavioural style, and how to use / adapt this when communicating and working with others.

    Build confidence to have difficult/ confronting conversations with others.

    Learn how to maximise energy levels and keep accountable for your actions.

  • Julia Spicer - Engage and Create

    Understand the fundamental activities of a board - roles, responsibilities, legal obligations.

    Understand the elements of effective group functionality.

    Develop appropriate meeting procedure – agendas, chairing, negotiation, conflict & reaching consensus, actioning appropriately, and reviewing.

  • RFCSNQ & Meridian Agriculture

    Understand the elements of an effective business plan, including strategy, goals, and objectives.

    Identify the link between business planning and better drought resilience.

    Master the key terms used in communicating and understanding the finances of a beef business including financial documentation (SoP, P&L, budgets).

    Identify key decision support tools relevant to determining and supporting beef business performance (including ratios analysis & benchmarking).

  • Amanda Roughan - Evolve Agri

    Gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the northern beef industry including production, land management, seasonal variability, risk management, adoption of new technology, biosecurity, animal welfare, and supply chain trends.

    Understand the purpose behind the Australian Beef Sustainability Framework.

    Understand the goals of the red meat industry (Red Meat 2030 plan) and how to contribute to them.

  • Ben Reeve - Meridian Agriculture

    Develop an understanding of the national and state-based organisations relevant to the northern beef industry.

    Identify how as a beef producer you may interact with each organisation.

    Identify key characteristics and interpersonal skills of leadership required to operate at an industry level.

    Understand and practice the principles for delivering effective presentations.

    Develop and refine relevant content for verbal communications.
